Overview

Bay River College’s two-year Applied Environmental Technology diploma program provides training in applied techniques to assess issues of environmental contamination in soil, groundwater and air, along with practical solutions to remediate and mitigate the contamination issues. The program offers an overview of air and noise pollution, water and wastewater treatment, solid waste management and in-depth techniques on environmental site characterization, soil and groundwater contamination assessment, risk assessment and management and remediation of soil and groundwater.

The Applied Environmental Technology program also details field investigation methods for site characterization and offers field modules to observe different drilling and sampling techniques in real-world circumstances. Regulatory framework and environmental management aspects are also covered, providing students insight on the regulatory frameworks of Alberta, Canada and the United States of America.

The program includes courses in applied computer techniques and software related to environmental management, such as GIS and remote sensing. The first few weeks of the program involve courses designed to provide strong foundations for later advanced technical modules, including applied chemical processes in the environment, applied mathematics and computer techniques.

Why taking the Applied Environmental Technology diploma?

This course will make our students highly trained to work as professional environmental scientist. Our course teaches students different method of sample collecting. They will be given exposure to all types of media such as air land and water. They will be taught about the pollution of air, land and water. The course offers an overview of air and noise pollution, water and waste water treatment, solid waste management and provides in depth techniques on environmental site characterization, soil and groundwater contamination assessment, risk assessment and remediation of soil and groundwater. The software that is essential for data collecting and assessing will be learned. Terminologies such as geophysical techniques and geological mapping will be properly explained. Methods to control contamination and pollution of air and land will be included in the course as well as the methods of waste water maintenance.
