ESL for Academic Purposes.
English Language Education
Go beyond your average English language education with Bay River College’s hybrid ESL for Academic Preparation (ESLEAP) program. Our unique program is designed specifically to prepare students for the challenges and opportunities of Canadian colleges, universities and trade schools. Successful completion of our four-stage ESL program will provide students with the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to excel in degree programs at Bay River College or any other post-secondary school across Canada.
ESL students want more from their studies than lessons on grammar and spelling. They want an education that will provide them with real opportunities for personal, professional and academic development. Our unique ESLEAP program is developed with the needs of today’s modern student in mind. As part of this comprehensive course, students will develop essential skills, including note-taking, computer literacy, public speaking and presentation skills, learning strategies and intercultural communications. Students will also study Canadian culture, business etiquette and current events to help them adapt to life in the country. Finally, students will receive training to prepare them to take the IELTS test.
Who is the ESLEAP Program designed for?
The ESLEAP Program is designed for both International and Domestic students whose primary language is not English and want to:
- Prepare themselves for successful entry into post secondary institutes that offer university undergraduate degree programs such as those offered at the University of Calgary, Mount Royal University and St. Mary’s University in Calgary.
- Are looking for an option to secure entry into Bay River College’s accredited Professional/Technical Training diploma/certificate programs in Canada.
This program is also an excellent choice for domestic ESL students who have completed CLB 4 ESL programs such as LINC and are looking for additional language training opportunities that are not offered by LINC.
