Becoming a certified Payroll Compliance Practitioner is required to find employment as a payroll specialist at many Canadian organizations.

Completing the three Canadian Payroll Association’s core payroll courses allows a student to be considered a “PCP Candidate.” To become a fully certified Payroll Compliance Practitioner, students will need to complete one year of payroll-related work experience.

For more information on certification, please visit the Canadian Payroll Association

The PCP certification is offered by the Canadian Payroll Association, and was designed for both experienced payroll specialists and those just getting started in the field. To be admitted into the PCP certification program, a student must have completed an Introduction to Accounting course at a recognized Canadian post-secondary institution.

Check with the CPA to see which accounting courses qualify for the certification program.

The Payroll Compliance Practitioner certification program takes place over 12 weeks. Classes run Monday to Friday at our Calgary campus, and are offered in the morning (9 a.m. to 1 p.m.), afternoon (1 p.m. to 5 p.m.) and evening (5 p.m. to 9 p.m.)

Start dates are dynamic, and depend on the availability of our students and instructors. Please sign up to receive notifications of our upcoming courses.

The Payroll Compliance Practitioner certification program consists of three courses:

  • Payroll Compliance Legislation (PCL), covering provincial and federal payroll regulations, employee/employer regulations, and communication of compliance requirements.
  • Payroll Fundamentals 1 (PF1), covering the calculation of individual pay, termination and Records of Employment (ROE).
  • Payroll Fundamentals 2 (PF2), covering organizational remittances, the drafting of year-end documentation, and the communication of payroll requirements to stakeholders.
