Overview

Bay River College’s 33 weeks Education Assistant diploma program covers the diverse topics required to successfully work under the direction of educators such as classroom or resource teachers. Students learn vital skills and knowledge, including educational ethics, conflict management and special program development for students with physical, learning or emotional needs. The Education Assistant program provides students with essential classroom skills such as team building, leadership and conflict resolution, and pupil observation and assessment. Students in this program will learn about child development, curriculum support and adaptation, pupil behavioral management as well as the necessary knowledge to help teachers in preparing materials, displays and other supportive activities. Students will also be taught how to assist teachers in implementing Individual Education Programs for students using strategic learning techniques and strategies.

Education Assistant diploma program students complete their education with 200 hours of practicum experience.

The students who will successfully graduate from our college can apply as a educational assistant in setups like child care centers, early intervention programs, public and private schools and summer Camps related organizations.

This course is for people who are interested in reading, document use, oral and written communication, basic numeracy, problem-solving thinking, multi-tasking and using digital devices.

Admission

Standard Admission:
  • 1. High School Diploma or equivalent, or
  • 2. High School Diploma equivalent will be from other provinces in Canada, or
  • 3. Successful completion of the College Admission Test (Wonderlic Test).
  • 4. Minimum scholastic level of Verbal Skills (365) and Quantitative Skills (265) set by WBST, or
  • 5. A Canadian Language Benchmark 5 or equivalent (TOEFL, IELTS) 5.
  • 6. Successful entrance interview with College Administration.
  • 7. High School diploma will be verified by diploma and/or transcripts.
Mature Admission:
  • Minimum age requirement of 18 years or older.
  • Have been out of school for two years.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent, or
  • High School Diploma equivalent will be from other provinces in Canada, or
  • Successful completion of the Bay River College Admission Test (Wonderlic Test) minimum score of 310 on verbal skills, or
  • A Canadian Language Bench mark 5 or equivalent (TOFEL, IELTS)
  • Successful entrance interview with Bay River College Administration
  • High school diploma and transcripts will be verified by diploma and/or transcripts.
